International Cooperation Office (ICO) was established on December 20, 2016. It is the structural unit of Semey Medical University, which promotes establishment of international relations between the university and other educational, medical and research institutions, as well as constant development of faculty and students academic exchange program. ICO reports to the Deputy Chairman of the Board – Rector for Strategic Partnership and Youth Policy.
Tasks of ICO: to take measures aimed at establishing and developing relations of the university with foreign educational and research institutions; to search for potential partners of the university in the field of education and science; to prepare and agree international contracts and other documents with foreign educational and research institutions; to update agreements, control implementation of agreements of international cooperation, consider international business trip reports and submit proposals on implementation of negotiated arrangements to the management of the university; to form and manage international relations databank, in so far as such provisions apply or relate to the functional responsibility of OACIR; to organize protocol events, related to the receiving of foreign delegations and citizens, staying in Kazakhstan at the invitation of the university; to make foreign delegation visit program; to agree visits of foreign guests, prepare draft orders regarding the arrival of foreign delegations and specialists; to work in with units of the university, involved in the receiving of foreign delegations; to meet and see off foreign specialists, as well as to contribute the hotel accommodation and organize social events; to conduct other activities, related to receiving foreign delegations and specialists, staying in Kazakhstan at the invitation of the university; to make informational and analytical materials to the extent applicable to the competence of the office; to conduct other activities at the direction of the Deputy Chairman of the Board – Rector for Strategic Partnership and Youth Policy.
Achievements of the International Cooperation Office
There are 27 memorandums and agreements signed between Semey Medical University and other institutions.
In 2017, 39 faculty members attended refresher courses in the following countries: 24 in Israel (Rambam clinics); 10 in USA, Saint Louis (Saint Louis University); 3 in South Korea 3 (Kyungpook National University, Chilgok Hospital); 2 in Federal Republic of Germany (“Charite” clinics, “Betel” clinics).
In 2017, five students of Semey State Medical University completed the training in Vilnius University within academic mobility program. 14 foreign experts in the field of medicine, research and education visited the university and gave master classes and lectures. In the first half of 2018, 11 foreign experts were attracted at the university.
In 2018, 21 members of faculty staff completed advanced training courses and took part in academic mobility program in the Republic of Turkey, Latvia, Germany and Israel.
In 2018-2019 academic year, 8 students completed 4-months training in strategic partner university (Baskent University) within academic mobility program.
