Department of obstetrics and gynecology of Semey State Medical University was formed in 1956 year. The well known in the Republic of Kazakhstan and abroad specialist-scientist Ph.D., assistant professor Alash Akhmetzhanovich Kozbagarov (1917-1996) was the founder and permanent leader of department during 20 years. He was born in Semipalatinsk in the family of paramedic A. Kozbagarov.
In 1934, after completing his studies at the medical work faculty in Taldykurgan, he enrolled in the Alma-Ata Medical Institute, which graduated successfully in 1939. He is a participant of the Great Patriotic War, and he was awarded two orders of Red Star.
After armed forces demobilization, he began to work as an obstetrician-gynecologist in 1948. He was the head doctor of the maternity hospital #1 in Semipalatinsk. In 1957, he successfully defended his dissertation. He is the author of 78 printed works and 14 rationalization proposals. A.A. Kozbagarov awarded was awarded the order "Badge of Honor" for the training of medical staff.
From 1976 to 1983, assistant professor M.G. Vasilevsky had been the Head of the Department. The Department was headed by assistant professors K.A. Ogloblin and A.A. Khabizhanova for a short period of time. From 2011 to 2017, the Department had been headed by PhD, professor G. Z. Kaylyubaeva
G. Z. Kailyubayeva is the professor at Semipalatinsk State Medical Institute. She graduated from Semipalatinsk state medical institute and then completed postgraduate program at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, and successfully defended her candidate’s dissertation. She is an author of 160 scientific papers, including 5 monographs, as well as co-author of 2 invention patents. Being a member of the working group consisting of AMS RK, she designed National curricular program for medical educational institutions of RK. She was awarded MH RK Certificate of Merit, lapel pin “Excellent Worker of RK Healthcare” and medal “Shapakhat”.
L. V. Kvyatkovskaya was one of the first workers at the Department and she had been working as an assistant for 23 years. A.A. Khabizhanova was the first clinical resident at the department and she had been working for 25 years. Assistant professor V.M. Ishanova, assistant professor G.P. Medvidicin, assistant professor G.M. Voroncova, assistant professor N.N. Zakharova, assistant professor D.A. Kurmangalieva, PhD, assistant R.T. Valitov, assistants A.A. Arslanova, M.Zh. Alseitova, N.A. Zhumageldina, R.K. Nurgalieva and E.M. Teteryukov, G.S. Sarsenbayeva, B. Zh. Satubaldinova, G.N. Baimusanova worked at the Department at different times.
According to the appropriate order, the Department was divided into two parts in 2011: Department of obstetrics and gynecology (undergraduate) and Department of obstetrics and gynecology (postgraduate).
In the 2017-2018 academic year, some things changed in the staff of the Department. The faculty staff is represented by the Head of Department Ph.D. G.K. Manabaeva, assistant professor G. Z. Kolubaeva, assistants G.A. Antonova, E. K. Alimkhanova, G.M. Egezhanova, S.S. Alimbaeva, Z.K. Zhaksylykova, G.S. Mukhametkhanova, G.Zh. Sarkuchikova and laboratory assistants Atymbaeva A.B. and Sabitova V.T.
Manabaeva G.K. – PhD, Head of the Department. After completing postgraduate course at SCOGP, she defended her dissertation, titled: "Features of the thyroid, immune and fetoplacental systems of pregnant women with thyroid pathology living in the Semipalatinsk region".
4-year students of general medicine, dentistry and nursing are studied by the faculty of the department. Perinatal Center #2, “Zhamilya” Hospital and City Hospital #2 are training sites of the department.The subjects are taught in Kazakh, Russian and English.
M.A. Dauletyarova successfully defended her PhD dissertation.
Staff of the department introduce new perinatal technologies in practical healthcare and systematically evaluate its work. Staff of the department take part in the work of the psychoprophylactic preparation school “Ana mekteby”, which specializes in the preparation of pregnant women for delivery. Faculty staff of the department annually publish monographs, articles and theses related to the actual topics of obstetrics and gynecology, as well as develop study guides for practical physicians, interns and students.
Young scientists develop topical issues on obstetrics and gynecology. The department’s reports, presented at students’ scientific conferences, are generally ranked 1st and 2nd. Students of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology take part in the republican and international conferences.
Teaching staff of the department hold regional workshops for obstetrician-gynecologists, primary care physicians and obstetricians for reproductive health services, family planning and effective perinatal technologies. It also should be noted that department holds courses of advanced professional training.
