In October 1988, the academy opened a laboratory of computer technology and TSM. It was located in a small room, was equipped with a small number of computers, and the staff consisted of 6 employees.
In 1997, the TSM department was transformed into an information-computational and editorial-publishing center (ICC), which consisted of three divisions (testing department, TSM and editorial-publishing department). The computer stock of the ICC consisted of "Pentium" class computers, also computer classes were equipped, and a small printing-house began to operate. The staff increased up to 10 people.
In 2007, the ICC was again renamed the Center of Information Technologies (CIT).
In September 2017, the Center of Information Technology was disbanded into two departments, the Department of Information Technology (DIT) and the Technical and Service Support Department (TSSD).
In February 2018, two departments were merged into one department – the Digital Technologies Department(DTD).
Currently, the department is represented by the chief (Tlebaldin N.B.), software engineers (Belokopytov I.Yu., Musin E.M., Baryshev R.V.), engineer-technicians (Tashetov M.M., Klyshbekov T.Zh., Krivobokov D.I.), the engineer technician of the CDM (Nesipaev A.O.), the operator (Seitkanova A.S., Akimova E.V.), and the proof-reader (Sapargalieva E.F. ).

The daily activity of the Department of Digital Technologies is repair and preventive works of computers, maintenance of computer classes during the session and mid-term controls. Support of servers and corporate network of the university, support of the university's website, development of software for university structures. The editorial and publishing department of the DTD is engaged in publishing activities (publishes the journal Science and Healthcare, collections of international, scientific and practical conferences, conferences of young scientists and student conferences, produces educational and methodological guides for doctors and students, publishes methodological manuals for doctors and students, monographs). Today, access to the global Internet in GMU Semey is organized through the fiber optic network of Kazakhtelecom JSC at a speed of 140 Mbit / s for unlimited traffic. Additionally, wireless Internet access (Wi-fi Internet) is organized for students and teachers. Completed 3 stages for the modernization of the University portal and implementation of the Automated Information Management System of the educational process "Sirius". In order to ensure security and counteract terrorist acts, an access control system has been implemented. In 2014, the work on creation of SCS in the UG of Semey State Medical University was completed. The integration of remote departments into a single local network is still continued. A local network with access to the Internet in a branch of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk was built.
