The International Cooperation Office was established on 20 December, 2016. The Office is a structural unit of Semey Medical University, which ensures the University’s relations with other institutions and organizations in the sphere of bilateral and multilateral international educational relations. The office directly reports to the Deputy Chairman of the Board for Strategic Development and Youth Policy.
The main objectives of the department are establishment and development of international relations of the University with foreign educational organizations and scientific institutions, as well as development and continuous support of academic mobility programs for students and faculty.
The office is responsible for the following functions: implementation of measures aimed at establishing and developing university relations with foreign educational organizations and scientific institutions, search and establishment of contacts with potential partners of the university in education and science. Preparation and coordination in the established order of agreements, protocols and other documents on international cooperation of the University with foreign educational organizations and scientific institutions in education and science. Updating of contracts on cooperation, control over realization of programs of international cooperation within the limits of the concluded contracts, consideration of reports on results of staying abroad, presentation of offers on the implementation of the reached agreements for approval to university management, participation in preparation of the conclusions and offers on realization of the accepted decisions. Formation and maintenance of data bank on international cooperation of the University, in the part concerning functional responsibility of the office. The organization of the protocol actions connected with reception and service of foreign delegations and the citizens arriving by the invitation of university, in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, planning of terms of visits and drawing up of programs of stay. Coordination of visits in the established order, preparation of draft orders and decrees on reception of foreign delegations and specialists. Interaction with structural units of the University involved in the reception of foreign delegations, organization of meetings and assistance of foreign specialists; support and assistance in accommodation, organization of cultural and entertainment program. Other activity connected with reception of foreign delegations and the experts arriving in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan by the invitation of university. Preparation of orders of the university management on sending faculty members, employees and students abroad for participation in international inter-university cooperation activities. Preparation of information, reference, analytical and reporting materials on issues within the competence of the office. Any other activities by order of Deputy Chairman of the Board for Strategic Development and Youth Policy.
Achievements of the office
As of today there are 37 valid memorandums of understanding between NCJSC “Semey Medical University” and other organizations.
Starting from 2017 59 teachers were sent to the following countries for overseas training: Republic of Israel (Rambam Clinic); USA St. Louis University; Republic of Korea (Kyungpook National University Chilgok Hospital); Federal Republic of Germany (Charite Clinic, Bethel Clinic) and Baskent University.
An international academic mobility programme is being implemented. The students of NCJSC “Semey Medical University” are studying by this program.
In 2017, five students of Semey Medical University studied within academic mobility program at Vilnius University, Lithuania, Vilnius. In 2018 5 students of NCJSC “SMU” studied within academic mobility program at Baskent University, in 2019 5 students studied within academic mobility program at Pirogov Research National University, Russia, Moscow, 8 students and 4 residents went to Baskent University, Turkey, Ankara and 1 resident -to Ryazan State Medical University, Russia, Ryazan.
Since January 2017, 50 foreign specialists have been attracted to the university.
The tasks of these specialists were to deliver lectures, conduct master classes and train employees of our university in priority areas. In addition, SMU faculty members have been trained and participated in academic mobility program in Turkey (Ankara and Adana cities), Latvia, Federal Republic of Germany, Israel, Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Bukhara since 2018. Namely, 21 faculty members went on training in 2018, 25 teachers received professional training in 2019.
