November 17th is International Day of the Premature Baby. Its main tasks are: raising people’s awareness of this problem; about the reasons leading to the birth of a premature baby; about the problems of families with a premature child and ways their solving; about individuals, professions and charities helping premature babies and their families.
Employees of the Neurology, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology Department together with curatorial groups have contributed to raising awareness of this problem using social networks. They also supported the regional charity clubs “Club 28 petel in Semey” and “Niti dobra in Kurchatov” by purchasing yarn for knitting sets for premature newborns and making a material donation. The importance of the activities of these and similar clubs lies in the fact that woolen clothes help keep the newborn warm, irritate the nervous system, providing a reflex massage and stimulating the child’s respiratory center. And knitted toys, most often octopuses, help to calm the child and improve his/her psychological state, since the tentacles resemble the mother’s umbilical cord and he/she feels the mother`s smell from the toy.
More information about the activities of these organizations and the possibilities of helping them can be found on their pages on social networks (@club28petel_semey, @niti_dobra_kurchatov). Useful information about the problems of families with a premature baby can be found on the pages and channels of the fund “Pravo na chudo”. In Semey town employees of the “Perinatal Center” and the “Rehabilitation Center Kamkorlyk” provide a huge activity for nursing, treatment, rehabilitation and counseling of premature baby and their families.
