At the Department of Public Health from 09/30/2022 to 10/28/2022 4th year students of the specialty “Public Health” studied the new discipline “Healthy Eating and Food Safety”. This discipline contributes to the formation of students’ skills aimed at preventing diseases associated with the nature of nutrition, monitoring the nutritional status of the population, nutritional value and food safety by developing preventive measures based on the knowledge of cause-and-effect relationships of nutrition and the state of health of the population.
A number of practical classes of the cycle “Healthy eating and food safety” include work in the laboratory. The Department of Public Health includes the hygienic department of the united educational and scientific laboratory of the university. The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment, which makes it possible to determine, among other things, indicators of the quality and safety of food products, which contributes to the development by students of the necessary practical components of the educational process.
With the help of Greentest ECO 4F and Greentestmini testers, purchased with Erasmus+ funding, while studying the topic “Hygienic requirements for food quality and safety”, students mastered the practical skill of measuring nitrate content and determining the radiation background in fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and fish. At the practical lesson “Hygienic requirements for the quality and safety of products of plant origin (grain products)” students mastered the technique for determining the porosity of bread using the Zhuravlev device. Using the Lactan milk quality analyzer, the students measured the mass fractions of fat, specific gravity, dry skimmed milk residue and added water in milk. When studying the topic “Nutritional status. Signs of nutritional inadequacy ”in the laboratory of the department, students measured anthropometric indicators of nutritional status. The hygienic department of the joint educational and scientific laboratory of the university, equipped with modern equipment, contributes to the formation of practical skills and abilities in students of the specialty “Public Health” for subsequent independent work in the field of ensuring health protection and sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population.
