On February 19, 2020, activists of the SCOME Standing Committee on Medical Education of COMM NAO MUS together with the Department of Simulation Technologies held an event for adolescents and trainers of “AS MANSUR Team” on the topic: “The mechanism of action and the consequences of stifling technique in martial arts and the prevention of their consequences by methods Basic Life Support (BLS)”,” First Aid for Upper Airway Obstruction (Heimlich Manoeuvre). ”
As you know, today most of the youth leads an active lifestyle, including such a sport as martial arts is of great interest to them. In this sport, flexibility and endurance play an important role, which must be constantly developed and improved. The wrestler have a lot of physical exertion during the training process, and injuries after methods during training are not uncommon. Therefore, the relevance of teaching these skills for schools such as “AS MANSUR Team” is quite high.
The event was held in the form of a lecture with a demonstration of the anatomy of the cervical spine on mannequins, its connection with asphyxiation; with elements of practical training of athletes in Basic Life Support (BLS) skills and the skills of Heimlich manoeuvre used in obstruction of the upper respiratory tract.
We hope that this event was informative and useful for all the athletes, and in the future, if necessary, they will be able to prevent the consequences of stifling technique at competitions and training.
